MISSION

Crisis Management Department's mission is to provide an academic education by the Civil Security study programme. Graduates are prepared to deal with the processes of risk assesement and emergency management in the public administration, municipalities, private sector and institutions dealing with living environment protection.

 Department of Crisis Management guarantees scientific education and organizational preparation of emergency management specialists educated through the Civil Security Programme. The Department provides the University education on 3 levels in compliance with Bologna process – Bc, Ing, PhD, and in accordance with Slovak law NR SR No.131/2002 about Universities and according further legal changes. The accreditation of 8.3.7. Civil Security study programme has been done recently in accordance with the law mentioned above.

Graduates are theoretically prepared for the professional life in the governmental sphere as well as in the private sector. The main sphere of the competence within the public sector is connected to the roles and tasks of risk and emergency management in governmental institutions, municipalities, and in the environmental institutions. Graduates have accurate knowledge on risk solution methods, they can provide risk analysis in various environment. They can deal with risk assessment and crisis elimination on management positions in public sphere or in (non)-industrial sector.

There are several post-gradual courses provided for employees of Emergency management units of Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunication SR and for other governmental units and institutions dealing with emergency management.

Departmental Science and research activities focus on:
  •  Social-economy and ethical questions of safety,
  • Complex risk assessment in social, technology and living environment.
  • Development of new methods development of risk analysis and its optimisation for practical use in various human spheres.
  • Theoretical bases of crisis management, terminology tasks and legislative process.
  • Improvement of Emergency management IT systems.
  • Optimisation of structure, competences, responsibilities of National Security System and its fundamental parts.
  • Proposal of changes in competences and responsibilities of national, regional and local governmental emergency management authorities.
  • Definition of competences and responsibilities of national, regional and local governmental emergency management authorities.
  • Emergency event solving in natural, economical and social environment.
  • Elimination of entrepreneurial risks in agro subjects connected to establishment of EURO currency.
  • Solving of economical impact of catastrophes and optimal provision proposal.
 
International Cooperation of Department of Crisis Management and foreign universities is connected to crisis management and social-human sciences. There are several partners with intensive cooperation e.g. Politechnika Wroclawska, WSO Wroclaw (POL), Department of social sciences of University of transport, Sofia (BUL), Faculty of Military Technology, Academy of Defence, Brno (CZ), Crisis Management Institute, University of Economics, Prague (CZ), Faculty of Security Sciences, University of Beograd (SRB).  

Within the Slovak Republic there is close cooperation with relevant authorities of government, municipalities and specialized institutions, as well as with another universities and companies.
